Best utility for recovering deleted files from NTFS?

What's the best utility for recovering deleted files from NTFS? I lost a couple thousand files due to a Windows Explorer fluke (It wasn't a user error!). I canceled the deletion before it could get all of the several thousand files in the directory deleted but I still have at least a couple thousand to recover. I shut it down immediately to avoid writing data to the new "free space" on the drive and was prepared to mount it as a seconday drive in my main system, but a freak (Well, with a 60GXP it's inevitable) failure of my other drive has complicated the situation. My other PC is a laptop, but I have ways around the problem (Friends come in handy here) if I can just find the right software for the job. I'm not just looking for "whatever works" but rather something that will be the best choice for future situations as well (*cough* not Norton UnErase *cough* I can't recover files from/for just anyone that way). What utilities from various places should I check out? What utilities are free? UnErase seems like what I need, and I may just go ahead and buy it when I can but if there is anything better/cheaper/quicker I'd be glad to hear about it! Thnx!

None of my PCs are bootable at the moment so I had to do what I could at a friend's house, inclulding order & use the software (as well as make this post). Because I wanted the CD and manual, I wanted to order the full shipped set and not the downloadable one, but because I needed to use it today, I needed to go ahead and download it. So I called Executive Software's distributor, Software Shelf to ask if I could still download it if I ordered the full kit. They told me they could do that for me and a download link would be included in the invoice email. It was just a link to the invoice on their page showing the shipped version, and nothing more. I tried calling back, but the person that handled my order was just walking out for lunch or something and they told me I'd have to talk to her. I left a message but it doesn't seem like I'm gonna get it downloaded from them today (DAMN, why did I have to ask for something special?!).

Can anyone here help me out by sending me the software? For anti-piracy assurances I can send a screenshot of my invoice... You can compare it to yours to prove that this is from the same site (You can punch your number in and see your invoice too). Thnx!
