Who did you go with after you dropped them?

I love my ISP DSLExtreme...they give us an unlimited download Supernews account with a 2x 256kbps connection limit :)

Not the fastest...but with two weeks of retention for binaries and a list of almost every single groups out there with 99% completion who's complaining :)

Anyone know a good newsreader that can do multiple connections for downloading binaries?

Use UsenetServer.com and Newsbin Pro 4.1 ( 6 simultaneous connections). I can fill a 120GB HDD in less than a month. I get unlimited GB/month and pay only $14.95. Other usenet providers have a GB/month limit and if you go over, you pay extra. My download speed is usually at the limit of my DSL service which is 1345 kbps. :D

I can download 6 files at the same time.

Say I have a program w/c is compressed with the *rar extension and they are split into 60 files. I can download 6 files at a time, not one file at a time. So I can download files number 1-6, then 7-12, ..... 55-60. This is the limit of the provider I use w/c is UsenetServer.com. Others have limit of 4 at a time. Of course having a broadband service (DSL/Cable) helps a lot too.

With Newsbin pro, go to Option, then setup, then connections.

OK, cool...I usually do 2 files at once...Is there anyway to stop from having to download headers every time you switch between groups?

Some news servers have search functions. I know with News Pro I can send a search word(s) up to the server and which groups I want to search. The server performs the search and sends the results back to me. I don't have to wait to download all the headers if I know what I'm looking for. Newsfeeds supports the search feature.

Newsfeeds is about $20/month for access to 12 servers. Each has a daily limit (around 750megs), but I very rarely hit the limit because of the multiple servers.

Another thing I like about News Pro is creating folders of groups. I can, for example, setup a folder for a.b.playstation2 and a.b.kenpsx. News Pro will combine the two groups and show me only the unique files all by clicking "Get New Headers" on the folder I've created. Great for setting up an audio folder, ps2 folder, xbox folder, etc.
