Best use of $350 between Video Card and CPU???

Considering that most appplications (non gaming) won't really see a big difference in a XP 1600 and an XP 2100 (or am I off basis?) ..And considreing that Most gaming is more dependent on the GPU rather than the CPU (or am I off basis again?), which is a better use of money.

Lets use the prices on www.mwave.com and stick with AMD.

Below are just pairs that stay in the same price range
_____________________________________________________

Video: MSI GEFORCE4 (MS-8871) G4 TI4400VTD 128MB $260
CPU: XP1600+ OEM $87
Total price: $347

Video: ATI RADEON 8500LE 128MB $179
CPU: XP2000+ OEM $163
Total price: $342

Video: LEADTEK GEFORCE3 TITANIUM 200-TDH 64MB $148
CPU XP2100+ OEM $198
Total price: $346

How would youse distribute ~$350 between the two items? Above are just 3 possibilities

Newegg:

GAINWARD/CARDEXPERT GeForce 4 Ti 4200, 3.5ns, 64MB DDR. < CRT ONLY. > No DVI, No TV-Out. Retail - $159 + 8 shipping

TCWO:

Athlon XP 1900+ 1.6GHz - $122 free shipping

$289 + possible tax

IMO, XP2100 and even 2000 are a rip off, you will see almost no difference at all between them and a 1900, probably even a 1800

spend the extra on something else.

I agree with the above post.... I would stick your processor at the price break, which is currently 1800+... and then go with a nice video card with lots of features (like Gainwards...)....

I agree with my esteemed fellow AT'ers... get whichever TI4200 is the cheapest and get an XP1800+... very nice combo for the money.

The vid card will certainly give you more bang for the buck. Though as implied above, there's very little price difference among the lower frequency steppings, so it's nice to take advantage of the bargain. I would suggest (having just done so myself) shelling out the extra bucks for the 4400 if you're into gaming - you get a lot of overclocking headroom for the extra $50. I received the MSI 4400 from Newegg today for only $237 shipped - that should leave enough for the XP1800 for another $100. OC the video up to around 310/620 and you've a beast of a gaming system within your budget.

I too would try and get the 4400. Its a much better card than either the radeon or the ti300. Its quite a bit faster than the 4200 as well.
