I'm looking for a USB 2.0 pcmcia adapter for my laptop, and I must say it's a more confusing topic than I imagined. After browing through existing products, I ran into issues like power usage, external power requirement, blocking of old USB ports, ugly protrusion from the PCMCIA slots, etcs. I just need some USB2.0 ports for two things: external DVD burner, and a USB2.0 TV tuner. So I'm looking for the most ~elegant~ solution to support these devices. Is there a card that:

1 Doesn't render the older USB 1.1 slots useless
2 Doesn't require AC power (ie fully powered from the cardbus)
3 Doesn't stick out like a sore thumb

For now, the best solution I've ran into is EZ USB 2.0 Cardbus with Dongle. It meets my 2nd and 3rd requirements, but I'm not sure if it meets the first. If anybody has more information regarding this and other USB 2.0 solutions, I'd be grateful to know

Sandisk makes a very nice one. Check the maximum pc archives, they did some benchmarks a while back and found that they were not all equal; some were twice as fast as others using the same media card!

Googer: I couldnt' find it... Know of any other sites that has reviews/information on USB 2.0 pcmcia cards? For now, my most pressing question is will installing USB 2.0 ports on my laptop disable the old USB 1.1 ports?

Oh, sorry! I am dyslexic and though you were looking for a USB 2.0 Memory Flash reader (for cameras etc). I know exactly what pcmcia is and was origialy intended BY the PCMCIA Assication to be a port for easy ram upgrades. But it was not long after it was relased that some one figured out that they could be used for other things like cd-rom interfaces and modems.

As for the USB Card Bus adapter you want go to Adaptec You cannot go wrong with products from this company since they are known for their quality (speed and reliability). Adaptec also has 5 star technical support. I highly recomend them.
