If I wanted to spend no more than $150 (preferably less) what is the best video card for me to upgrade considering the following:

1) Currently PIII700 (oc'd to 870) on an Abit BE6 board (2/3 AGP multiplier)
2) Cant get my TNT2 past 124fsb (need a card that will go hopefully up to 150fsb)
3) Ram is Crucial PC133 Cas2 (dont think that is limiting my overclocking)
4) CPU cooling is an Alpha P3125 with dual thermaltake fans (Idle temp is 25C)

Other Info:
Moderate Gamer (UT, Quake, Starcraft, Tribes2 etc)

Suggestions please on Video Card type and brand

thanks,

Mattlock

I would say a geforce 3 ti200. There won't be toomuch a driver issue going from a tnt to a geforce. Check out anand's review for the overclocking potential of each brand. I don't own one yet, but its on my to buy list.

if you really would rather not spend more than $150, look at some geforce2 flavors. a friend of mine has an mx (400, i think if that applies) and it does him fine (he being a moderate gamer like yourself, sounds like). but geforce3 ti200 would kind of stand out on a p3 700 (oc'd), maybe not. thing is, im buying a vid card pretty soon, too, and i refuse to buy anything less than a geforce3 (maybe a gf3ti200 and oc it) because of the programmable gpu on the sucker. it opens the doors to game developers to just blaze ahead in graphics abilities. so, im not sure how long the geforce2's (or ati's for that matter) will last when games start to be designed for programmable gpu's.

gf2's get you a better deal, tho

I have read somewhere that w/o DDR ram on your mobo, you will notice less favorable results using a GF3 than by using a GF2 flavor. If you are using PC133 ram, I would suggest getting a GF2 TI200 cause it's right under $100 right now. That or the GF2 Pro. It would be a huge improvement over the TNT2 Ultra.
