Thinking about upgrading several of my lower end PC's. They have PC 2700 to PC 3200 ram in them but the CPU's are Duron 600, 900, and 930.

What Mobo with potential overclocking and CPU could I get the most bang for buck out of?

Most low end boards I see dont overclock.

I assume the one machine with PC2700 will get newer ram to help.

Refurb is OK as well.

Ok I believe a Athlon XP 1700+ for about 50.00 and a refurbished nforce2 might do the trick.

Anyone else think so? As I recall the Athlon XP 1700+ is a great overclocker and the nforce2 speaks for itself.

Agree?

It depends how you look at it.
I found a Duron 1.8 GHz at tigerdirect for $30 US or $53 CDN but the rebate expires tonight or yesterday whatever. They usually come back online several days after the first of the month. But that's for socket A. I believe, although I'm not an expert that nForce2 boards are the best overclockers for socket A. And I've read that some people have had problems with nforce2. So, for budget PCs, there is still socket 754 where you can buy a Sempron 3100+ now and replace it later with a Sempron 3700+. Although right now there is no rebate for the Sempron 3100+ so it might be almost better just to buy an Athlon 2800+ to get 64 bit. (64 bit Semprons are supposed to come out shortly. Sempron 3700+ are supposed to come out for socket 754 in the next year.)
BTW, if you've read my message about having a Duron 1.8 GHz and Ti4200, you know I can play UT2004 with high settings and I can play demos of Doom3, Far Cry etc. I read it's really a reconfigured Athlon 2200+.
