I'm really interested in hearing experienced people's opinions on the pro's and con's of these models and/or manufacturers. Also, if I missed a contender (<1.2" height, <5lbs, <12.2" LCD) then please let me know.

I'm in the market to get buy an ultraportable laptop. So far I've found the following to be my options:

DELL X200: 800MHz, 640MB ram, 30GB drive, 12" LCD

Gateway 200: 933MHz, 384MB ram, 20GB drive, 12" LCD

Toshiba Portege 4010: 933MHz, 1GB ram, 40GB drive, 12" LCD

Sony Vaio R505: 1.2GHz, 512MB ram, 60GB drive, 12" LCD

Sony Vaio SRX: 850MHz, 684MB ram, 20GB drive, 10.4" LCD

IBM ThinkPad X Series X24: 1.13GHz, 640MB ram, 30GB drive, 12" LCD

Thanks for your time!

I personally like the ones with docking stations... (Sony, IBM & Gateway) I don't know that much about the Gateway, and the IBM is more expensive, so I'd go with the Sony R505. (it also helps that I think it's the best looking one ;))

Money always a problem, but I'd rather spend $3k on something that will really be a good solution than spend $2k on something that will always make me wish I spent a little more.

Thanks for the feedback! Anyone else?

Bump.

Very interested in opinions. Should be buying a notebook in the very near future.

I wish they would up the VRAM in the IBM T-Series. Would become the best all around notebook if they did.

If you are going to consider the Sony R505s ...you may as well consider the Fujitsu Lifebook S 6XXX series.......
same thickness, 13.3, but comes has internal drive bay for swappable CD-ROM - CD/RW..........
so if you need floppy or the CD while on a trip..........
I would get a Life B S6010 series...

VAIO SRX is a good ultra portable book...i wouldnt' call anything w/ a 12"+ screen "ultra" portable...

the fujitsu b-series books are good too - touch screen 10.4" is pretty sweet too...Wireless LAN, 256mb, 30gb, 800mhz, etc...
