best type of ram for new AMD cpus...

alright, heres what I was thinking. Lately all AMD processors have had a 333 mhz fsb, so what would be the best ddr ram speed to match up with this, pc2700 or pc3200? pc2700 is effectively 333mhz, and pc3200 is effectively 400 mhz. My assumption is that pc2700 would run in sync with the processors FSB, and thus give better performance than pc3200 would. Is that correct?

Since the latest AMD processors use a 400MHz FSB, there may be merit in getting PC3200 so you're ready if/when you upgrade to one of those later. You can still run the PC3200 at PC2700 speeds so it's synced with a 333MHz-based CPU. Corsair XMS3200C2 is on Asus' qualified vendor list for 512Mb PC3200 modules, and that's what I ended up getting (x 3).

Yeah, what mechBgon said. If you plan to upgrade to a 400FSB Barton at any point you should invest in the PC3200 now. Personally, my next upgrade will likely be a hammer so I'll just buy better RAM then. I seriously doubt I'll upgrade my current machine much, even though I do have a 400FSB ready board (MSI K7N2 Delta-ISLR) I just bought a Barton 2800+ and don't see myself outgrowing that for a long while truth be told.

No. Though PC2700 does run Sync at 333mhz FSB, so would PC3200. Just because PC3200 is made to run at 400mhz FSB does not mean that it won't run at 333mhz FSB. IOW, the speed that the ram runs at is not determined by the ram, it is determined by the Motherboard. So if you set the FSB to 166(333) and the ram at 1:1 or Synch, then it would not matter whether the ram was PC2700 or PC3200, the ram would run at 333mhz.
