Everyone knows "MacGuyver" had the best theme song

"Greatest American Hero" comes in a close second.

I know it is way before my time but Welcome back Kotter. My parents watched it a ton when I was really young so it got stuck in my head

I like Mash's theme, although the show itself was a little before my time.

It was a really great show. The movie was ok, they tried to make it more of a Vietnam protest movie than anything.

MASH was one of the first songs I learned to play on guitar. IIRC, it was actually a song that was released before it was in the tv show.

The name of it is "Suicide is Dangerous"

Edit: It's Painless, not dangerous. Knew something sounded funnay about that.

Ooh...I forgot about Knight Rider....

Here's my list. As you can see, I've downgraded "Greatest American Hero" cuz i think there were much more worthy ones out there...

They just don't make good theme songs any more do they?

1. MacGuyver
2. A-Team
3. Knight Rider
4. Batman
5. Hawaii Five-O
6. Magnum P.I.
7. Greatest American Hero

edit: for 50 points, can anyone out there recite the intro to the A-Team theme song without looking it up? :)

i think its:
in 1972 a team of crack commandos was commited of a crime they didnt accuse...they were put into a maximum security prison and shorty escaped...they survive as soldiers of fortune

"commited of a crime they didn't accuse"?

NYPD Blue, hands down. It's at least as good as any other I can remember, and the recording, itself, knocks me out every time I hear it. Put it up on a good stereo, and it'll blow you away. Unfortunately, the re-recordings of the theme for all the spinoff followups suck.

Another good one from an older program is another Mike post theme for a Botchko show, the theme from Hill Street Blues. I also like Greatest American Hero, which I think is also by Mike Post, and yes, the theme from WKRP in Cincinatti was great, too. I'll toss in a sentimental stroke for Mash ("Suicide is Painless"), which is a good, well recorded tune, but it isn't in the same league with the others.
