What is the best TV and place to buy that I can get for $3000 with an extended warranty? It will be going above a fireplace.

This is for someone else that asked me. (An middle age single lawyer) I was thinking Sam's Club since they have a nice extended warranty. He is looking for 50"+/-.

Buy one for $3,000 and save the other $3,000 for personally funded insurance.

Nice budget. What about a 50" Panasonic Plasma for $3500 or so or are you looking for bigger?

Can't mount that over the fireplace. I'm not sure over a fireplace would be a good spot for even a plasma TV.

You're not going to have much selection in the 60" Plasma range for that budget. I think you would probably need to wait about 6 months or perhaps a year. I think they would be better off getting a good 50" Plasma. How big is the living room and how far will they be sitting form the screen?

Whoa, didn't see the above the fireplace requirement. 60" mounted above the fireplace for under $6k... no good choice there.

Even worse is the neck strain from having it mounted too high.

-edit- oh, price was lowered. In that case panasonic plasma.

It looks like the: Panasonic TH-50PHD8UK 50" Plasma TV is the best choice for the price.

What is a good stable place to buy with extended warranty?

CRTs are still the best bet for quality/price and you could get like a 1080i/p 63 + for like $3000. But your looking for Plasma or LCD so thats out of the question. You should have him get a projection for 100"+

A 60" CRT TV? Where? Link? LOL

you must mean a Rear or Front projection, not an actual tube tv.
