I was planning on archiving some tv shows and burning them to cd
what is the best card + software for doing it? (besides aiw cards)

What OS do you run? And also, what kind of format do you need? Everyone says the 3dfx one is good (don't know, have only seen one review). The TV Wonder is good if you don't use Win2k, there are only beta drivers out. You can probably get it for like 50 bucks on the For Sale Forum. The TV Wonder VE is probably 50 new, but it can only capture MPEG-1.

Got the Hauppage WinTV, but don't know of any software to record with it
I've tried something from the hauppage website but didn't work.

So if you're gonna record with it, the wintv probably isn't the best

you can record with the tv thing that comes with the happauge. There is winvcr or something also, it works with all brooktree cards.

Studio PCTV from Pinnaclesystems.

The card will work with VirtualDub

VirtualDub will also convert any mpeg2 files you record with the cards software to mpeg4 or divx. I did and a 10MB mpeg2 file went down to 2MB with no noticable loss in quality.

An advanced warning. VirtualDub settings can be kinda confusing. try
Digital-Digest for a tutorial.
