I wanted to buy a Huffy Green Machine, but said he waqs too small; I wanted to get the 12v bumper car, but again, too small. I have already bought the little one trains and race tracks, so now at a loss, given the age requirement.

Any suggestions on cool toys for a 2 year old? I was told a wagon would be cool, but I just don't see it. :) Man, I hate Christmas.

Fischer-Price's Little People toys. I'm assuming a boy, so Dinosaur toys would be good too. Legos? MegaBloks?

For my kids, it was books, books, and more books. If you can make the time to read them to the kids, it makes it that much more special :).

Oh, and as far as the 12V cars goes, it depends on the kid. My oldest couldn't control one until he was probably 3 and a half. My youngest was 1 and a half and could drive like a pro.

One of those mini-basketball goals or baseball tees are good too.

I'm with you, but I should have mentioned--gifts are for my nephew. I recently had a son, too, but he will only be 4 months on Christmas (though I am already reading to him). :)

I like the Dinosaur idea...they have that robot dino on sale, so maybe I'll check that out...

I did buy my bambino the Dinosaur drop and roar thingy with the balls. :)

A friend got that for our daughter and she loves it. Her big brother loves to play with it too.

I bought one of those for mine, too...the leapfrog hoop thing. :) I was thinking 2 is a bit old for that one, but I'l look for the next bigger size...good idea.

If he were a bit older, I was thinking air hockey or that old school hockey game with all the little push/pull handles where you swing the dudes and the sticks...know what I mean? :)

Truth be told, that's what I think is wrong with America today. I never wore a stink'in bike helmet when I was a kid. :) If I had my way, I'd pass down my old set of lawn darts and let boys be boys. :)

How about one of those cheap blowup bouncer thingies? 2yo too young for those?

This is the one we got my son a couple of years ago. Its adjustable from 3-6ft so it can last a long time. :D

Yeah, 4 or 5 would be the age to start them with that. My brother got one for he and his daughter. I'm wanting to get one too but don't have anywhere in the house to put it right now. Too many toys already!

I work night crew at a KB Toys so get a pretty good idea of whats popular on a given week. if theres any left i think the "phonics" style games by Vtech and LEAPFROG are pretty good these days and not to expensive but you'll be hard pressed to get him to play with it for very long. theres advanced ones called V.baby/smile/flash (depending on target age) that work like a videogame system but there $50-$100 and don't sell very well for reasons unknown to me. cheap R/Cs are pretty good but keep an eye on the battery requirments. stay away from propietery battery backs. look for something that has a pack you'd be comfortable rebuilding yourself, or something that takes regular batteries then put good rechargables in it and get yourself a big smart charger. etch-a-sketches/magnadoodles are something every kid should have and are pretty cheap. they've got new magnadoodles now that write in red and blue instead of just black. tonka still makes a single big metal truck, kids love them but good luck finding it this close to christmas. stay away from the plastic tonka trucks/junior cat/cat trucks. there not very sturdy and sure to break. is he into sesame street/barney/dora/diego/spongebob? theres all kinds of that stuff out there. does he like to build things? duplos are good because they seem to be to big for a kid to swallow but don't quote me on that.

no, i'm not putting that into paragraphs.

Most people will disagree with this, but I think the best present my son got when he was 2 was a black&decker cordless screwdriver, a 2x4 with some pilot holes drilled into it, and a handful of larger screws. He had a ball with it. Oddly, the real powered screwdriver was cheaper than the toy powered screwdriver. At 4 yrs of age, he was building bird houses with a cordless drill, hammer, and jig saw. It kinda settled a bet between me and my wife over what he'd play with more.

Then again, by 12 years of age, he built ramps and table-tops all over the place for his roller-blading. That stage was pretty annoying.

My kids love that. More than driving screws, they like to just drill holes in some old pieces of landscape timbers.

It's amazing how much time he spent with that thing.. Screw some in... put the screwdriver in reverse, screw them out. Over and over.
