Skip Miami and head for the keys. If you are not urban or stupid wealthy Miami is not for you. I live somewhat near Miami and never go there. If you have about a g a night to spend it is a blast. My buddy lived down there and we calculated our bar tabs for the year were over 25k. It takes crazy money to party down there and eat at the top restaurants.

Keys have the 3rd largest barrier reef in the world and key west has a great party scene. Plus way cheaper and totally unique to Florida. Stay on duval near Caroline street. La concha or crown plaza is the top hotel down there.

Islamorada is more my pace, but no partying/bars for me - just care for quiet and good fishing.

I love the people in this thread all aghast about the weather in the summer. It was far more miserable in the summer in D.C./Northern Virginia than it is down here. At least we get the breeze off the ocean and are not just a boiling swamp.

That said, I agree with the "never" for going to Miami, but I'm also married, have kids, and frankly would have no friggin clue what to do in the 'scene.'

This! When I lived in Richmond,Va for years the summers were so bad. I live in Orlando now and the summers are no big deal to me.

I would go to Puerto Rico if I were you. Great place to party and eat awesome food that won't break the bank. The Island of Vieques is a nice place to go also. Next time I go to PR I'm going to check out Culebra.
