Best time to buy laptop? pre or post "back to school"

Right now there are some decent deals out there for what I am looking at ($900-1000 or so athlon laptop)
Should I buy now or wait till mid september and hope for some post school deals?

I guess another way to ask this is:
Does the "back to school" blitz drive prices up due to demand or down due to competition?
 
My experience is that it drives prices up, if anything, and that August and September ae the worst months of the year to shop for a laptop.

The back to school special laptop being advertised at the 'local Best Buy' is $100 more than the same item was, regular price, 2 months ago.
 
really? I am seeing $900 athlon laptops that were $900 last week but have 20GB more disk space.

Heh I hate Dell and Celeys...
