Do any of you guys know about a Western that was about 5 to 8 hours long about Texan-Mexican fighting that took place on the borders of the Rio Grande sometime in the 1800s or something. Used to come in like 2 VHS tapes back in the 90s.
Lonesome Dove from 1989? If so I just watched it on Netflix this weekend as it will be gone after today.

Now that's some quality 70s cheese.

I'm with Maxpower for my favorite Spaghetti Era cowboy.
Franco Nero for sure!

For classic era, 30s, 40s, and 50s, John Wayne

Otherwise,
Eli Wallach is pretty high on my list

Clint Eastwood, even if he didnt really act very well, he got the image right. And when he directed and stared in movies, they didnt turn out too bad either (I love The Outlaw Josey Wales and Unforgiven, though Fistfull of Dollars is probably the best movie he's in, and I love Good Bad & Ugly)

Lee Van Cleef, I am a bit less a fan (I'd take Eastwood over Van Cleef) But I do enjoy his performances...

Well, he did say western looking, terrible actors who "look" the part, thats pretty much John Wayne is it not?

I guess I missed the terrible actors part? :hmm: Because if that was included, then yes, Wayne fits the bill.

Ben Johnson and Bruce Dern were always good in westerns. Not exactly 'Best' as in leading men, but deserve mention. Also Jack Elam.

No one said they had to be in Westerns.

That said, I had an Uncle died recently that was a Mule Skinner on the Burma Road in the Army in WWII, went back and heard a few stories from the family I never knew anything about when I went back a few years ago.

He was a Slim type.

Hell, the one about him meeting my Aunt was pretty funny, he was in a Rodeo at the time, was one of the star bull riders.

She didn't even know I guess, she went with him and he disappeared on the first date, next thing she new he was out there going Rockstar on a bull.

Many vets in the family have passed away from WWII I guess, even have one was a torpedo bomber rear turret gunner passed away, couple years ago.
