I think you call it thermal grease (in my Intel CPU installation, they are called thermal interface material). Never install it before, never bought it before too. Yet I need one before I instal the fan for the CPU. I heard there are various quality. How can you know which one is a good quality? Which one do you recommend me to buy? What is the best one?

Thanks in advance.

Arctic Silver 3 is some of the best I have seen. Arctic Silver contains micronized silver so that the heat transfer is excellent. Only an extremely thin layer is necessary. If you don't plan on overclocking then it probably doesn't really matter too much. Of course, buying higher quality thermal paste is a good way to keep your CPU living a longer life while only spending an extra few dollars.

Arctic Alumina is made by the same company and is a bit cheaper as it uses aluminum instead of silver. It gives the same performance as AS3 and is also alot easier to clean off if ever need be.

AS3 is the best available as far as i know. It suits me. CPU is never running above about 48C full out in the hot weather.

Is this right?

I heard from this forum that the best way to clean the CPU would be to use alcohol. I guess I will do that on both CPU and fan. I went to some website explaining how to put the paste but it look way too confusing after looking at the picts and reading it. My guess is to put a little of that AS3 paste in the center of the CPU, use something flat and hard like a credit card(old by preference and cleaned using alcohol too) to make sure the ciment is flat on the CPU and just put the fan on top.

If the ciment goes a little overboard, when the fans is pressed on top of the CPU, over I guess it is ok...

That's the link I was having trouble with. In pict5, I can't figure out what is that yellow looking paper the guy is putting the paste for. Maybe it is the CPU after he removed the paint... I hope not, cause I don't even know how to remove the paint in the first place.

LOL, that's not paper that's the heatsink it's copper.:)

Determine what area on the base of the heatsink will contact the CPU core once the heatsink is mounted. Twist the plunger in the syringe barrel at least 1/2 turn to ensure that it is free. Squeeze enough Arctic Silver thermal compound onto the center of this area to create a small mound as shown in the photo below on the left.
