best texting app on the iPhone?

I'm looking to ditch my texting plan to save some $$. Any recommendations on a good app? I think multitasking in iOS4 will really help sell some of these apps. I just don't know which one to get...

I'm assuming it doesn't, but does this happen to streamline into Apple's messaging app? I've been looking at stuff like TextNow but it seems cumbersome to have to juggle 2 different apps for the same function.

No.. no real good way to break into Apple's Messaging app. You have to give up some stuff to get free texting on the iPhone. Although, if texting is super important for free you could always switch to the iPhone.

I actually prefer TextNow with Google Voice to Messages with AT&T, since you get an automatic archive of your texts online. So now I have everything integrated into one system for free (Gmail, Texts, Voice, Calendar and Docs). It really is a great system for me.

Will an app like this allow me to text when I am in a no service area AT&T area, but still have access to wifi?

Figured. Still will probably give it a try though as I'd like to utilize my google voice number better. So I'm assuming TextNow still has push so you still get notified at least? Do you know if it/google voice supports MMS?

No Google Voice doesn't support MMS, so you can't receive pics/video. That's a downside, but I don't honestly receive that many, and I'm ok with just using email/TextNow for sending MMS.

TextFree is pretty sweet. You get a real phone number and it seems to work with all canadian providers, TextNow doesn't work with rogers/telus.
