Best Text / SMS App for Android?

I'm looking for a replacement for the stock Text / SMS app for my Galaxy S III. The stock one doesn't seem to handle group messages with iOS devices properly, it seems to always separate them out in to individual text messages.
The stock app in my old Droid Bionic handled them fine, so I know it isn't an Android in general problem.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

GoSMS was great in like 2011, but has gone downhill since summer 2012. No more backups (you have to pay), and a bunch of features removed. It now spams you every few days too with promotional messages.

Unfortunately this is the best we've got in Android.

If you're really desperate you can flash to any 4.2 ROM... AOSP handles it from that point on.

Handcent is another one that does it.

I haven't used any of them so can't comment.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
I'll give Handcent and Chomp a try first, looks like GoSMS had some issues with their ad server that was spamming users with text message ads every 5 minutes for a couple days. Not something I really want.

Chomp SMS -- It's basically Bite SMS (On iPhone Jailbroken) with more features. It's by the same developer.

I love the stock android one (not the HTC or Samsung one), but you can't get that one on HTC or Samsung phones. I use chompSMS instead.

Just block the sender, that stops those. You can block go chat senders thankfully.

Yup. I did that.

Surprisingly though there's nothing as good as GoSMS still. I've tried the new ones like Fusion and Sliding. Fusion is limited and Sliding is just bloated and slow. I might just go to the CM SMS app which is stock with some extra settings.

BTW Chomp is old. I think the company is keeping Chomp as an option for Pre-4.0, but Post 4.0 = Textra (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.textra)
