Best tether app for rooted phones?

I have a rooted LG C800, or as T Mobile calls it the first Mytouch Q. Although rooted I don't know how to do lots. I have had one tether app work just awesomely and it has superuser access but that app only supports WEP.

What is best free app for creating a hotspot with a rooted phone?

i think its just called "wifi tether" thats considered the best app

since you have tmo though, you need to be careful when tethering because they do try to monitor that. your best bet is to get a custom rom with tethering built in... those usually grab the data in a way that the cell company cant tell how youre using it.

WiFi tether works great, when it works.

i havent been able to get it to work on my Gnex for months. i suspect it has more to do with AOKP then the ap but it does not seem to work on any of the 4.2.x versions

Clockwork Mod Tether - is wired and free - no root - works great

I just go into settings -> wireless & networks -> tethering & mobile hotspot -> portable wifi hotspot.
Works every time flawlessly for me.

gnex 4.2.1 on straight talk. Have the wife's phone on 4.2.2 and it works perfectly as well.

Added the bolded bit.

I was assuming that his carrier had removed that option from his phone.

OP can you try the above and tell us if that option is available to you?

He did say his is a rooted phone. Not sure if rooting the phone adds that or not.
My wife's phone isn't rooted, but it is a gnex.

OP, can you click just below wireless and networks to get to more options?

Just rooting a phone doesn't really add any software.

I've no idea if that option has been removed from his phone though.

Why aren't you using the native tether function? Any half-decent AOSP ROM should enable that, esp. on the Nexus.

However, I doubt OP has that option. The sideloaded Wifi Tether for Root is what I used to use... could also try FoxFi which doesn't need root.

you never know with stock roms though, the carrier could have monitoring on it. i could be wrong, i dont know for sure but i thought thats how it was.

Why are you using a 3rd party app for tethering when you can use the native one on your Nexus?
