My boss said if there are any important tech conventions/expos that I need to attend to keep up-to-date in my field that he will gladly send me.
I know I can keep up-to-date with most things via the Internet, but who am I to pass up the opportunity for free travel and to see cool things in person? And... to network of course.
I'm basically the IT Manager/CIO for the entire company, so my area of technical interest is quite broad: hardware, software of most any type - even consumer electronics to some degree. My company does business in the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
The only big tech event I've been to was something I stumbled into while in Seoul this past June (World IT Show 2009).
Let's say I want to go to 3 or 4 events per year: they can be anywhere in the world. Which would be the best/most important from a business standpoint?
