Nexus 7 IMHO, because Android is the best OS (again, IMHO), and it is large enough where web browsing is much more bearable than on a phone while still being small enough to be portable. And since we're asking dollar for dollar, the price is a big factor.

Only thing is the missing mSD slot, but I personally have managed just fine with a 16GB limit, let alone 32GB.

The Nexus 7 is cheap and big enough to do everything, it will just be cramped. Anything bigger/faster than that is just a luxury.

Nexus 7 hands down, though I think kindle HD should at least be on the list for people that live on Amazon.com.

When I read "dollar for dollar" I think "best value", given that I would definitely go with the Nexus 7 wifi.

If you just said, "what is the best tablet", I would probably go with the iPad.

Nexus 7. It's not the best tablet in my opinion, (but then I'm not overly fond of 7" tablets to begin with so there's that) but for what you get at it's price, it's easily the best value.

A friend has a Nexus 7, two of my Roommates have iPads, while i think that the 10" form factor is a better lounging around device, if you're going to be mobile at all, the 7" is much easier to take with you. It's also MUCH cheaper. That being said, with a Note 2, a Nexus 7 is pointless for me. (as are most tablets in general)

Since you said "dollar for dollar", I'd go with the Google Nexus 7. I love mine.

Nexus 7 w/ 3G.

Google only charges a $50 premium for cellular data on their tablet, vs. $130 for Apple.

Having that always available data connection is awesome when you're on the road. And the Nexus 7 is the ultimate in-car GPS if you can find a mount that works with your vehicle.

Having Android phones Id probably go iPad just for variety and multiplatform compatibility.

iPad. Android tablets may be getting a nice kick this year but I'm not going to be a beta-tester and sit there and wait for apps to get developed for it. Things may change next year but there's still no way I'd buy a current generation Android tablet.

(The Samsung ATIV Pro is probably 2nd on my list. It hits everything I want... but is so damn expensive)

I voted Nexus 7. $200 is a amazing price for something with an HD display a speedy quad core processor. And fortunately because of the smaller size, the lack of tablet optimization isn't too distracting.

iPad is a close second. $500 is expensive, but when you consider the massive number of tablet optimized apps, really good game selection and incredible retina display with very good color calibration, this is an incredible value as well.

$199 for the Nexus 7 is too hard to beat, especially with the increase of memory to a more respectable 16GB. 8GB was laughable, but now its a serious bargain. It is hard to recommend the iPad Mini with the $100+ price difference. I wish the Nexus had expandable storage though.

I haven't had hands on time with the N10, but its a little pricey to be considered a bargain.
