Best SUV between 20k and 30k?

My 2004 Chevy Trailblazer was totaled recently(I was unhurt thank goodness)so I am in the market for a new SUV priced between $20,000 and $30,000. My dad said that the Trailblazer did not rank too high in crash tests(worked great for me though!🙂)and my mom wants me to get something with side airbags. The airbags would be nice to have but it is not a priority for me. I need 4 wheel drive since the winters are harsh and I like a responsive engine. I liked the size of the Trailblazer so I would prefer that category and the vehicle must be new. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, I would like to buy within the week and recreational off-roading capability does not interest me.

Ford Edge is a good looking crossover. You'll need to wait a couple months before it hits the market though.

if he waits that long, i would recommend the saturn Outlook.

however right now, in the midsize 20-30k.

Toyota FJ, if you like how they look.
Xterra
Subaru Forester.

Winters are harsh in El Paso, Texas? 😕

Dude, I'm from upstate NY and never had a 4WD vehicle in my life! I don't get the "it snows 3 inches here once in a while so I NEED 4WD" mentality.

Subaru Forester, XS if they still make that model. Check consumer reports, it's usually at the very top.

Yeah, that's a sweet ride! Get the one with the turbo 2.5l engine and 5 speed manual!

I'm pretty happy with my Ford Expedition. (first Ford I';ve ever owned in over 30 yrs of driving) If you don't need anything that big, they have the Explorer or Escape. Not a Chevy fan, and I hated the Dodge Durango for a variety of reasons, and I don't care for most "riceburners", although some score pretty well in the various testing.

I'd go with the new Tahoe. If I didn't like American, I would go with something from Toyota.

Yes, Tahoe FTW!
New or used, best bang and dependability for the money.

As a business traveller I've rented almost every SUV imaginable. The best SUV for the money in my opinion is the 2005/2006 Jeep Cherokee. Rides like a luxury car and excellent in all weather conditions. I was so impressed with the new Cherokees I bought one (2005) and I absolute love it. I also have a 2006 Murano. You should be able to pick up a used 2005 model for a good price.

You're in Texas!
You don't really need a truck unless you live in the boonies (likely in texas, but not in the el Paso suburbia) and def. don't need 4wd.

Pickup a used GenII durango. Great vehicles, and plenty of power.

Hmm, everyone I know who has owned a Durango has had problems with it. Major problems, like transmission and engines replaced!!!

That and they get like 12 mpg.:thumbsdown:
