Unfortunately Square Enix is being pretty lame and doesn't seem interested in releasing any of the classic SNES RPGs on virtual console. 🙁

But fortunately there's homebrew so we can play them on Snes9x. 😀

Battletoads was on SNES???? I thought it was only on NES.

Battletoads in Battlemaniacs for SNES

And I totally agree with Super Mario RPG on the Virtual Console. It would be a very popular download.

Today, I will be downloading Ocarina Of Time and The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past. 🙂

When I got my nintendo wii a few weeks ago, ocarina of time and The Legend of Zelda: A link to the past was two of the first games I downloaded from the wii store

There was this one game that my friend rented when we were little I am trying to find. It was a top down shooter like this. It allowed two players to play at once and it had awesome specials like a gigantic laser or a swarm of missles. Does anyone know what game I'm thinking about?

Strike Gunner. Used to love this game growing up. Play it w/ my bro almost daily.

honestly SNES is the greatest system of all time hands down.

Indeed. The games were incredible back then, and so many of them have stood the test of time. I cant say the same about most of the genesis, tg16, n64, ps1 and other systems that are now considered retro. It was like the SNES completely unleashed the creativity of the developers, and the end result was a huge quantity of extremely polished and still not only playable, but fantastic titles.

I'd like to add Cybernator to the list...a bit of a sleeper, but it was one brilliant game. And lets not forget illusion of gaia either. Or ogre battle.

Nostalgia bias ftw

Nonsense - I play retro games regularly alongside the next gen consoles, and the SNES ones stand out as holding up over time incredibly well. I cant say the same about the genesis or TG16, and I can think of barely any PS1 games that I'd ever want to replay.

Also need to add Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana 2) to the list. It never made it onto these shores, but the fan translation is as good as the real thing, but you need to use emulation to play it. But the game is absolutely incredible, probably one of the best on the entire system. It was as massive a jump over SoM as Chrono Trigger was over FF2/IV, and given only one to play, I'd take SD3 over CT. It's that good.

My favorite SNES games are..

1) Super Mario World
2) Final Fantasy II
3) Final Fantasy III
4) F-ZERO
5) Breath of Fire
6) Breath of Fire 2

There are so many more, but I think it would be pointless to list them all. SNES was, in my opinion, the best console to have ever existed. So many great titles.

your recommendation made me buy yoshi's island. I am already on the 3rd world! It's an amazing game. Probably the best mario game tbh.
