I was really looking at the samsung 710n but i just found out that it is a 6-bit pannel!
Now i have seen it in stores and such and i think it looks really realyl good.

I have looked at other screens such as the ld90+ and some cheaper ones but they all have the same problem (being 6-bit or having a crap contrast ratio or a slow response time)

are there any lcds that have
dvi
8-bit pannel
sub 12ms respones
contrast 600 or above

for about 350$??

thanks!

nope, not going to be that cheap. its either 8 bit or fast response time usually, and you don't need that high of a contrast. 400:1 is fine. i have a sony sdm-hs73 and its beautiful, sharp and pictures are crisp. also, it has high brightness and looks cool. but it only has vga... oh well, i can't tell a dif between dvi and vga. i love it. one thing when buying monitors is that the company specs aren't everything. sony has a reputation for making high quality lcd's and dell does too. some don't and you want to find a good brand.

so should i just stick with the 710n and get someone to calibrate it for me?
or should i splurge and go for a samsung with dvi?

dvi is something you can sacrifice, make sure you get a high quality monitor. i never like samsung monitors, they are always pixelated a lot.

On my desk here at work I have a Dell 1704 FPV (from home) and an NEC AccuSync LCD71v. The Dell is DVI and the NEC is VGA. I swapped roles on the monitors yesterday. Before swapping, the Dell was the most used LCD. After I swapped, I noticed how bad text is on the NEC. I don't know if it is the quality of the panels or DVI vs VGA. I suspect the later and while I believe people have good experiences with VGA on LCD I will lean towards DVI even for a 17" panel.

You can't get something with sub 12ms response times but you can get one with 12ms....I'm typing on mine right now and it came out to $250 after rebate...

I'm sure the 2005FPW - 20.1" widescreen price has gone down to a low of 35x$ before. The last major discount was at the high 300's.

They came down to 380 dollars once. That's an extra 30 dollars, I think you should be able to afford it. Get at least 19", 350 for a 17" is a rip-off.

i know that i was planing on getting a 710n but now im looking at the fuji fp-988
its 19" it has dvi and vga, 12ms, 8bit pannel, 600:1 or 700:1 contrast (cant remember)

also i have 265$ right now so its still going to be a while for a more expensive pannel

The 20" Widescreen Dell looks like a good monitor but it comes with a goofy resoluiton that most games aren't going to support. You'll end up playing your games at 1280x768 or 720 and you can do that on a 17" 1280x1024 screen.

what was the problem with tht l90d?

Is it a 6-bit? Or was it just the contrast ratio he wasn't happy with?
