Seems a bunch of people over at AVS are jumping on these new Samsung DLP Projectors (HLRxxx Series). I am a video ignoramus but I just want a good TV. Anyone here in the know? Link

Dammit! Now I'm gonna have to look into this TV and possibly buy it!

Man I've spent so much f'ing money by being on these forums.

Looks like a great TV btw, can't go wrong with a Samsung DLP.

Well I'm pulling in a little more cash these days. That's about a week's take after taxes. I think that's a reasonable percentage of income to pay for a nice toy like that.

Ok then...what about this one?

Don't buy a standard definition display. Or an enhanced definition display for that matter. If you're going to buy a new TV, buy an HDTV.

That isn't SD, they just incorrectly reported it as SD.

"Max Resolution: 852 x 480"
That is barely ED.

Are you fvcking stupid or soemthing? It is ED..not barely..not SD...but ED.

I've been reading a lot of bad posts about the Samsung DLP's lately, that's what I used to recommend as far as DLP's go. I'm holding out for the 1080P TV's. I want to see if Sony can make a cheaper Qualia and if Toshiba and Hitachi can make better DLP's. The HD-ILA TV's should be pretty sweet too.

yep man seems you know what your looking for. are you really wanting a projector? or a crt? hitachi 51s500 and a philips (model # escapes me but it ends in 9363..do a search it'll pop up) are both great sub $2k tv's. i have 1 of each. the philips shines in tv/ice age type cartoons...where as the hitachi excels in dvd/hi-def/lord of the rings type movies. its all about what your watching habits are. pm me with any other questions

i think they have a 50" Sony DLP tv for $1800 bux in the hot deals forum. newer model of the one i have which i bought for $3k a year ago.

the samsung HLR series are good too. I need a bigger one then a 61" at the moment.

Best selling Plasma TV in the country because the quality is so good. A friend of mine bought one and I want to. I've seen his and it looks better than most of the $6k HDTVs Ive seen.

It really comes down to "bang for the buck" and this is the value leader right now and has been for a while. What you're getting is the best quality plasma panel being made in the sub $4K price range. It has the same native resolution as widescreen DVDs, so they look disgustingly good on it.

Most of the ATOTers love to quote specs, but when you get this thing in your living room, you'll understand why it's a no brainer. The picture cannot be explained by specs & numbers. It has to be seen.

Now I want one again - my problem is not having any place to put one. I already have too many TVs, including a 23" Samsung LCD w/ DNIE that I also love.

PS - That TV is bare bones. You'll need to spend extra for wall mounts or a table/stand, etc.

so when people say tv for $XXX, does XXX includes taxes, tv stand, new cables (component, DVI, HDMI, etc)???

nope

so i wonder what the difference between XXX and the amount they end up paying out the door is...i am betting at least $500 easily (stand itself is $200 plus tax plus around another $150-200 for tax itself)....delivery charges(maybe), PSP if you get (another $200-300), cables...

So what do you think about the whole HD vs. ED argument made here Mav? And what about that Panasonic plasma I linked to above? I would be using the TV mostly for movies - DVD, cable, etc..
