Best sub $100 scanner

Hey,

I'm looking to buy a slim, usb powered, sub $100 scanner. I would like it to be compatible with the windows xp scanner software. I'm a big fan of not installing extra uneeded software, so good driver support is a plus.

I'm going to be using it a lot of 99% for just scanning in documents for record keeping.

However, I would like it the capability to do nice scans of photos when I want to do that sorta stuff.


any recommendations?

One of the Canon LIDE series or the Visioneer 750 might be some, but I won't buy stuff anymore from companies that don't support Linux, so that leaves those out.
I just got an Epson Perfection 1260 PHOTO and so far it is excellent. Comes with a slide scanner adapter. But it doesn't meet any of your criteria except for <$100. and quality scans.
. Personally I go for function over form every time, nice to get them in the same package but... And it works with Linux. It's a discontinued model but is still widely available. I got mine NIB from eBay. Around $50. They were clearing them out on the Epson site for $45. shipped - until the day I finally decided to spring for one - Gone! 🙁 .

I have a canon LIDE (30 I believe) that was about 100 when I bought it. Very portable and USB powered so you can take it with you anywhere. Gives nice crips scans. You wouldn't use it for a photo lab but it gets the job done...

Look at/for 1 Visioneer OneTouch 7300 ...they can be had for under $80US

I suggest lookingat something from Canon. I have a HP scanner and it is annoying to use and the quality isnt really taht good. Go with Canon or someone who has experience in digital imaging.

I love my canon scanner. No power plug just uses the usb for power. It is a good scanner for the price.

USB powered scanners use primarily use CIS sensors, I would rather have a CCD anyday.
