You've got to be kidding. That Suepahfly looks like a $2 Walmart stuffed animal. There must be some inside information that I'm oblivious to.

Oh well, these are the best stuffed animals ever. I really like the lifesized giraffe and the reindeer. But my favorite of all is the studio standing tiger.. It will fit in great with my stuffed animal collection if only I could afford it.

Only problem is you can't hug a Steiff....even if it wasn't expensive, they're just too stiff.
I'm gonna have to nominate Mr. Lion as the "top dog" so to speak, because he gets ALL the ladies.

Why are those things so expensive?

"Only problem is you can't hug a Steiff....even if it wasn't expensive, they're just too stiff."
You are correct that the studio animals are stiff and not very hugable. So were the original Steiff bears - and the remakes of them. But the rest of the Steiff line is (a) more realistic than any other line of stuffed animals I've been able to find and (b) softer and more huggable than almost any other line of stuffed animals. You should really see some of their non-bears in person. They are as hugable as could be.

Ok now I'm going to be riddiculed for being a man that loves to collect/hug stuffed animals. But at least I'm manly enough to do what I want when I want...

"Why are those things so expensive?"
Many reasons.
(a) Those are studio animals which are lifesized and to be used in large toy stores as displays - not to be purchased by the public. They do have smaller versions but I linked to the bigger ones.
(b) Steiff is the original creator of the stuffed animal. Thus the Steiff bears/animals are the oldest ever and often the rarest. They are great collectors items - some worth tens of thousands of dollars (maybe hundreds of thousands for some bears?).
(c) Steiff animals are hand made: hand sewn, hand stiched, hand stuffed (hand painted too I think).
(d) Steiff animals are realistic. I've never seen another stuffed animal that looks as much like the real thing. Once I gave my girlfriend (now wife) a Steiff cat for Christmas. When my mom saw it she was angry that I bought another real cat. This detail adds to the cost.

For all of those reasons Steiff animals are more special than regular stuffed animals. That comes with a price tag.

I guess they are too rich for my blood. The only Steiff I ever had was the 1940s or 50s Fox Terrier, which was NOT cuddly at all, and only cool b/c it barks when you squeeze it. Funny story about that is it's been in my family for many years, passed down to kid after kid. My father was about to throw the thing away last time my parents moved, and he had the thing his hands ready to throw it out and he caught his finger on the button under its ear and was like "WTF?! This is a Steiff!"
So the dog stayed....hehe

I can't say I'm a collector, but I've got a whole lot of them...2 fish, 2 dogs, 2 pigs, 4 lions, a tiger, a bunch of bears, a monkey...
I don't really care for realistic as much as "cute" ones. I always liked Gund animals because they are a little bit realistic, but they are usually really cute....you can't help but smile when you see them.

That's my current gf. Hands off :)
For some reason any female that came into my room couldn't help but cuddle with that lion....
He's desperately in need of a bath by now.
