Best storylines, emotional characters

I was just thinking that the most memorable experiences Ive ever had playing a game have not come from the button mashing to get to the end, but from enjoying the dive into another world. I guess that why I dont play adventure games anymore...

In any case, heres my list of games that have had either the best plot, or a story so well done, you get emotionall attached to the characters. Either way, at the end of these games you feel bad its all over..:

1. Lunar: Silver Star Story
2. Lunar 2: Eternal Blue
3. FFX
4. FFVII (a smidge ahead of FFX imo)
5. MGS
6. MGS2
7. Zelda64 (questionable, but damn, it was a great ride)

Thats it. Its no wonder my game playing time has dwindled to almost nothing. These kinds of games seem to be getting fewer and fewer in number, since we get rehashed plots all the time. If they subtracted two programmers and added at least 1 scenrio writer, I guarantee the games would get a lot better.

Thoughts?

Betrayal at Krondor had a great well-written plot and pretty good gameplay. Dammit, if I could find a copy of that game and had a machine that would support it, I'd play that again.

Planescape: Torment
Fallout 1 & 2 (especially 1)

If you take the time to read the text, Planescape has a very rich story revealed through tiny fragments of recovered memories and in the memories of others.

Both Zeldas for N64 had me wrapped in the story, more OoT than MM though...the whole time changing thing and lack of Hylia in general took away from that game for me. Just a little though. I am playing it again anyway just because.

When I read the title of this thread I immediately thought of FFVII and FFX. (Cloud and Aeris, Tidus and Yuna respectively). I am working my way through FFX and I just played the part early this afternoon where they are swimming around together. (After you fight Seymour for the second time)
