I just blew out my CF card. I plugged it into a laptop HD connection.. bad idea. The connection fit the CF card so I thought I'd try it since the adapter for harddrive broke.

So, I'm looking for a new cheap SD or CF card. I only need 2GB. I know that average prices online are $8-$10. Are there any store that would close to this price?

Sure . . . some of the best on-line stores are B&H Photo Video, Adorama, Abe's of Maine, etc. All are in the NYC area.

What kind of laptop HDD connector would fit a CF card? That sounds pretty wierd!

As stated, B&H is in midtown (9th and 34th I think), Adorama is...somewhere in Manhattan, and J&R is next to City Hall. Those are the 3 places I know of and frequent for this stuff.

Thanks. I totally forgot about BH and Adorama. I'm not too far away from Adorama and their online prices seem pretty good. Thanks guys. I'll head over there after work.

corkyg, It was actually a weird connection that they did to connect to a hdd adapter. It was a really old gateway laptop. Must have weighed 15lbs. The hdd adapter was a flimsy pcb adapter with plug for 2.5 hdd and then hooked to their connection, which (unfortunately for me) was shaped exactly like a CF port. Foolish me, I thought I'd try it hoping the CF would detect as a drive. The flimsy pcb broke when I was trying to replace drive before. Just imagine 20 thin wired connection connected to pcb to plugs. No way to fix unless I had equipment and patience to solder it all back into place.

ARGHHH. BH and Adorama BOTH close early on Friday and not open on Saturday. :( I guess I'll have to wait until Monday.

lol, well I'm not sure which card you want, but an alternative if you want to head over to City Hall instead would be to check out J&R. Might be a bit pricier though, since they don't specialize in photography stuff, but it could be worth a shot if you don't feel like waiting.
