I'm going to replace my parents old computer this xmas and I need an suggestion on where to buy a prebuilt computer...around $300-$400 without monitor.

Don't have the time to build it myself.

At that price range, it's hard to beat Dell (presuming you're in the States). Take a look through bargains sites (Techbargains is fairly good about keeping track of Dell deals), and see what's been available recently in your price range. Then select model based on your (well, your parents') specific needs (for example, they might prefer small form factor case).

Dell's always my first choice. I'll check out local ads for a week or 2, but generally Dell has the best specials.

I've outfitted entire companies with refurbished hardware from Dell Outlet. There are three grades of refurbished hardware to choose from (Previously ordered new, certified refurbished, and scratch & dent). Can't beat the same-as-new warranties, free shipping, and money back guarantee.

Good luck!

For such a gift, I would buy locally. So, a lot of that depends on where you live. I would look for sales at Best Buy, Office Depot, Staples, etc., or a local OEM. My choice here in Tucson would be SWS Electronics. Main reason is local warranty support so you don't have to be the sole source repair guy.
