The best steak i ever had is a toss up between 2 places...

1.) Belagio Hotel - at this japanese tepanyaki place that served Japanese Kobe Beef...OMFG absolutly incredible! shoud've seen the marbling on that piece of meat...cost was about $275.00 per meal

2.) Ruth Chris steakhouse - awesome steaks that just melt in your mouth!

Best bang for buck steakhouse!

1.) Claim Jumpers - Cowboy steak....22oz of ground peppercorn streak for only $19.00 and served medium rare just how i like it!

2.) Outback steakhouse - I think it was 14oz for only $16.00 they also know how to cook a medium rare steak

I have to say that Outback is the best for a chain.... But mainly because they not only have good steaks, they usually have good drinks there too. The cost is somewhat more expensive than the traditional Quincy's, but I don't eat out that often so it's not half bad....

Best steak:
1) Beau's House ;) Best montreal-style new-your steak that you'll ever have!
2) nothing compares to #1 :)

Best Chain:
1) Outback
2) Still trying to find a place that makes a decent enough steak to put into this spot. :(

For a chain, Outback is hard to beat in my mind. When you add their "Shrimp on the Barbie" to their large filet, it's and incredible meal for the price.

My favorite chain will always be Bennihanas, but I'm a sucker for Japanese steak houses.

There is (was?) a independant restaurant under the lighthouse in the Sea Pines plantation on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. I can't recall the name of the place right now, but they have a plate called "Twin Sea Steaks." Two filets, one covered with a mushroom glaze, the other with hollendase (sp?) sauce. Now, I'm a purist and don't normally like anything on my steaks, but these were absolutely incredible. I haven't been there since 1994.

Another memorable steak was at Victoria Station in the LA area. (not a chain) Is that still there?

Personally, i think Outback is ok. If you want a really good steak from a chain check out a place called The Texas Roadhouse. I first ate in one when I was visting Kentucky. Now we have 2 here in central Pa(1 in lancaster and 1 in York). They kick ass. When you go in they have a steak/hambergers/meats in a butchers display case. You can pick the steak you want and they cook it to perfection. They aslo serve this sweetbread that is fantastic.
P.S. If you like ribs, this Texas Roadhouse has awsome ribs that fall off th bone. You can eat them with a fork!!!

Now I am hungry! :(

<< My favorite chain will always be Bennihanas, but I'm a sucker for Japanese steak houses. >>

Hibachi is great, but Benihana is about the lowest of the low when it comes to hibachi cooking. I've heard a number of chefs at indie hibachi joints that say they have to completely retrain people who learned to cook at Benihana, and I've found that whatever they do or don't do to the food is a lot more bland than the place I frequent.
Of Hibachi chains, Hibachi and Kobe are the 2 I'd vote for.

I'd also list Outback as a "good" place, but definitely not a "best value." Even for steaks, I've gotten better, cheaper steaks at other places. I've never tried Ruth's Chris b/c that's DEFINITLELY way too expensive. I've gotten some good cuts at Ground Round for $10-$12.

I'd say go for a smaller, independent place, though. Prospectors in South Jersey is great. It's weird to go into a restaurant that's NOT a chain these days, and it's very refreshing :)

Texas Roadhouse is good. Better than Outback IMHO. Buckets of peanuts on the table, lots of different draft beers, great steaks. The steaks however are not better than Ruth Chris but there not as expensive either.

Peter Luger's in Brooklyn is where it's at! 3 month advance reservations, awesome steaks, and cash only.

Ruth's Chris? Yuck! I hate that place. It's got to have been the worst steak I've had (seriously).

The best steak I've had was at Spark's in NYC. I haven't had Peter Luger's yet so I will reserve judgement til then.

Also good are Mortons, Del Friscos, Palm and Bobby Van's in NYC.

I think Smith and Wollensky's is very overrated. I didn't like it there at all and I tried it 3 times too.

For bargain steaks, I like Outback too. Their USDA Prime was pretty good.

Also, I've had Kobe steak in Kobe and I thought it was overrated and expensive.

Best staekhouse I've been to is the Country Inn in Somerville, Texas. $10 gets you the biggest and best piece of meat you've ever seen. 30 oz i think :)

On the chain side I think Outback is good but not as good as Cheddars (although I dont htink there are too many stores)

Bah 30oz is a baby steak. The best place for meat is The Big Texan in Amarillo Texas. Its a tourist place but they have the best burgers there, and a 72oz steak that you can have free if you eat it in 1 hour. Its only like $50 if you fail. You get up and sit on a platform and have to eat the whole dinner before their timer counts down. The record fastest time was something like 9 and a half minutes by some old baseball player.

I don't eat steak myself, but there's a place in Tampa called Bern's that people rave about, but it's expensive

Plus I went to Charly's in Tampa and the chicken kicked ass :)

(Yeah, my post probably doesn't help much here :) )

Didn't Homer Simpson lose to that guy?

Oh yeah, I went to Charlie's in Tampa too and it was rated in the top 5. But I didn't like the steak at all. It tasted like bacon. I think the reason why it was so highly rated was because it was so cheap.

Yeah I am pretty sure that the simpsons episode where they ate those giant steaks was based off of The Big Texan or someplace like it.

I dont like any steak that is marinated!!

Leaves out Outback but still OK.

Longhorn is my favorite for inexpensive. (Not really inexpensive) Know it is in both Missouri and Florida.

Shulas, Ruth Cris, a few unremembered names in Texas and Colorado, all you can eat or free if you eat it all.

Yeah, the Big Texan rules!!! I especially like the "shooting range" in the waiting area. That place is fun.

What did you have? Everytime I've eaten there it's been delicious, but honestly, there are better less well known steakhouses in New Orleans. Ruth's Chris definitely isn't bad though...

Some of my favorite local places are Dickie Brennan's, Charlie's, Crazy Johnnie's, The Steak Knife, Lakeview Harbor, Ditka's, Mr. John's, Morton's. Can you tell that I love steak??? Anyways, you can get a good steak at any respectable restaurant here, so I actually don't go to these places all that often...I'd rather have a little variety.
