I was thinking of re-using my Intel S3500 240GB SSD in a laptop but then I figured, it may not be the best option from a power perspective. What's the lowest Idle & Read power consumption today offered by traditional 2.5" SATA SSDs? I want the battery to last as long as possible. Mainly do reading on that laptop. Thanks.

Maybe look at the 850 EVO, BX100 or Sandisk Extreme Pro?

This is going to be rather usage dependent.

Idle power consumption is a bit straight forward but a lot of active power consumption data is hard to judge as you'd need to factor in race to idle.

I'd personally pick the BX100 or the evo (because of their low power usage and relatively low price), but there is not really a definitive winner here.

Either of those are going to do fine.

This^^

Pick whichever is cheapest.

The BX100 has officially been replaced by the much inferior BX200 so if you want one of those don't wait around too long, I don't think there's any more BX100s being made, it's already gone out of stock permanently in a few places.

Try and get your hands on a Crucial M550. They are fast little buggers, and have a low failure rate!!!

The laptop got only 3 gigs of RAM, so it's gonna abuse the pagefile quite regularly too. Writes have to be low as well. So far I am locked on Samsung 850 Pro but still looking. I like the pricing more on the EVO SKU though. Heh.

Thanks.

I run the 850 pro as my desktop boot drive and a 840 pro as my laptop boot drive. If I had the funds both of them would be populated with 850 pro's for storage too.
