I've never used spyware before and I was wondering everyone's opinion on it? Do I need it, what's the best one, and is it free?

Ewido is another option on top of Spybot and Adaware. Try Spyware Blaster also.

Learn to internet and you won't have to install all that anti-whatever crap to suck up all the system resources.

Running spyware protection in the background is unnessisary for almost anybody. Running a A/V (a decent one) shouldn't suck up many system resources or slow your performance.

Still you never know when you'll get a virus.
It could come out of no were making a good AV a nessisity.

I would never consider running a real time anti-spyware program though.

4. Ad-Aware SE
5. Spy Catcher 2006
6. Trend Micro ASW 3.0
7. Counterspy 1.5
8. Spybot S & D 1.4
9. WinDefender Beta 2
10. Aluria ASW
11. Ewido ASW 4.0
12. Spyware X-Terminator 2005
