Best Speakers for Music

Looking for the best speakers for music under $500 I can hook up to my computer, currently I have a set of Z-640s which have really crappy sound quality.

Get the Klipsch 5.1 THX ones. They run from $300-$350 but they are worth every penny. In my opinion they have the best sound quality of any speaker set I've ever heard. Clear, crisp, and beautiful sounding with enough bass to make the room vibrate if you so choose (not the obnoxious booming stuff either just pure quality bass tones). if you don't need surround then go for the Klipsch 2.1 (the ones I am currently using due to lack of funding). They are just as good as the 5.1 but only cost about $200. The Klipsch blow the THX certified Logitechs out of the water in terms of sound quality. Don't get me wrong, the logitechs are some of the best but Klipsch is head and shoulders above everything else out there.

Yeah, the more speakers the better. If you get an even number that will be great, then you have them alternating left channel right channel left right... won't that be fun. Make sure you get an Audigy too, the effects really enhance music. It's game music you listen to of course?

OK. $500 will get you somewhere. You will want a new sound card too.
Basic sound card with digital out->used digital receiver (panasonic sa-xr series)->speakers
EMU 0404->old solid state stereo integrated amplifier from ebay->speakers
There are a lot of speakers to choose from. Go to ebay, avoid the bose, and Google the rest and you should be set.
If you want something really simple you can use the Griffin Powerwave as a sound card and amplifier in one. I think it works with PCs as well as Macs.
