Hi.

I currently own the Bose Companion 5 series which are connected to my Mac Mini which serves as a entertainment device playing videos and music. THis is almost a faux 5.1 system, the sound is nice, and I especially like the lack of too many jumbling cables.

But I find that in some kinds of movies and music, such as operatic music, this doesn't perform all that well.

I heard a lot about the B&W "MM-1" but they're good only if you rest your head in front of them on a platter. From a sofa about 6 feet away, they might as well be the neighbor's speakers.

What are the other audiophile grade speakers in this range? I don't mind the size of the speakers but I do want to avoid cable spaghetti. Cost is not an issue.

Welcome any recommendations.

Thanks!

I mentioned my requirements in the last para of my post above.

I just need something better than Bose companion 5. No cable spaghetti. Cost not an issue. Ideally with a subwoofer, but without is ok if the sound is good.

do the fronts/main speakers need to be wireless? or will you accept only having wireless rears?

for the receiver, you could use something like the onkyo 709 or 809 the option to use a wireless source (for music only?) is nice and might allow you to use a wired front left/right/center and perhaps subwoofer depending on your room layout

you could get a home theater receiver and front left/right/center/sub wired, with some powered wireless surrounds http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1346376

but if you have to have wireless,
there are several wireless subwoofer kits available

wireless front left/rights could be the same as the wireless rear, though they should match the center.

it's kind of hard to find a simple solution for a wireless center though, so that might be the deciding factor for your front left/right

they suggest using a guitar wireless system for the center

it'd probably be A LOT easier to suggest stuff if you included a budget range though
