After listening to both the Allman Brothers and Lynard Skynard I'd have to say the Allman Brothers.. At least when Duane Allman and Barry Oakley were still alive. Their song "Dreams" is an outstanding example of Southern Blues and Greg Allmans voice must be the best White Blues Voice ever.

Of course Lynard Skynard was/is great too. Free Bird is probably the # 1 Guitar Solo (Duo) Song with Stairway to Heavan a close second

Of the bands that achieved widespread success, I'd say the Allmans. Marshall Tucker also deserves credit.

Allman Brothers. Hands down. None of the other southern rock bands even approach their level of musical ability. The arrangements on some of their stuff is so complex it's almost like listening to jazz.

Great stuff.

Skynard is my favorite, but I think the Eagles are probably the greatest in that category.

Ever listen to "Seven Bridges Road"?

And Skoorb, thanks for the once again brainless and unsolicited opinion. Keep up that post count!

Then you can't possibly like southern rock, so why are you posting in this thread?

Don't worry. No encouragement needed!

Black Crows are good...

Is Skoorb in Dixie?

I'll have to call some fellow Crimson Tide fans and have them welcome him to the South (by kicking the crap out of him).

;)

Lynard Skynard is my absolute favorite. I also like Bad Company a whole lot, but I am not sure if they would count as a southern rock band. Shooting Star is an awesome song, along with Feel Like Making Love.

Allman Brothers? Crap? What the hell are you talking about? Pray tell, what bands would you deem worthy of the Skoorb Seal of Approval?

And that is exactly what we would expect someone like you to say.

I think I like the Allman Bros so much because they are as much a blues band as they are a rock band.

The other bands are great too ( even though I can't stand the Eagles)

Hehe....I don't they'd qualify as their members were from the UK.;)

Paul Rogers does have one of the better voices in rock n roll tho.

There was a band around Tuscaloosa in the 70's that included two of my cousins, called "The Locust Fork Band." Rumor has it this was Kenny Stabler's favorite band when he was at the University of Alabama.

They were about as Southern Rock as anyone I ever heard...too bad they never made it big.
