Jaguar XKE Engine

6 Cylinder inline, DOHC that's 12 valves - one set for intakes, one set for exhaust,
each camshaft activates 6 valves down the head bank.
12 valves can be operated with just one cam. Why would they put two of them in it?

It has a lot to do with exhaust note. The V8 rumble of the stang, from the old 302 to the current 4.6 sounds orgasmic. It's more exhaust than engine.
