Best sound card?

I don't know if this is the right board, but I don't see an audio board, so I guess I'll give this one a try.

I've heard lots of bad things about the Creative line, so I'm trying to avoid it. I need something with pristine sound quality, a good feature set, and drivers that are useful. I suppose the biggest things for me are 5.1 Dolby and a high quality sound; value is also important. So, what would everyone recommend for a good sound card?
 
IMHO I would go with a Soundblaster Audigy Platinum EX. That's just my taste. I'm pretty sure some others will say the Santa Cruz, and the Hercules sound cards are also great sound cards.
 
well the old creative cards were ick on sound quality, audiology seems to have fixed that, it matches the santa cruz in the dep atleast😛 if price were no object.. sb audioloy plat ex🙂
 
MOst of the bad stuff has been said about the sb live line...whether warranted or not, I will not go into it. However the audigy recently hit the scene and ppl flocked to it. However I am hearing several bad reviews by anandtechers. I would still go santa cruz for bang for the buck. A little more money for not much more (unless you get the full xp version) is the hecules Game Theater.
