Best sound card?

Well it has boiled down to the M-Audio Revolution 7.1 or the Audigy 2 ZS (Platinum) for my Klipsch 5.1 Promedia Ultras. I'm not satisfied with ASUS's onboard sound on my P4P800-DLX.

I've read some reviews and the Audigy 2 ZS seems to be better for gaming while the M-Audio Revolution is superior to the Audigy 2 ZS in everything BUT gaming.

Thoughts, comments? I would like some advice from you before I make my purchase!

(or if anyone has a Audigy 2 ZS [Platinum with black faceplate] or an M-Audio Revolution please PM me for a possible sale!)

Thanks in advance,
daba

Actually I'd say the only thing the M-Audio has going for it is music, because you can easily get ASIO drivers to bypass K-mixer.

Other than that, the Audigy is better for movies (DD, and DTS decoding) and games (EAX 4.)

Why exactly do people say the Audigy 2 is bad for music? I think it sounds good, though granted I'm no audiophile by a long shot.

I don't think anyone has ever said the Audigy2 is bad for music. In fact, you're right. It IS great, and is very close to the Revo 7.1, but the Revo is just slightly better. I had both at one time, but couldn't justify the keeping the Revo because I do a lot of gaming and in this area, the A2 was clearly superior.

Well maybe not here, but when I was doing research on what headphones to buy (ended up with Senn 280s, if anyone cares), a few audiophile oriented sites really lambasted the card, it was like what Dell goes through here hehe.

A big issue people have with the Soundblaster cards is that they still resample internally to 48KHz. I'm guessing on high-end audio equipment it's not too hard to hear the difference.

The original rap for 'not good for music' was with the original Audigy. The Audigy2 got better and the ZS is just the best so far in the Audigy line. I have a pretty decent HT set-up attached to my ZS (Yamaha RX-V530 receiver, Energy Take 5.2 speakers) and IMO, the ZS sound quality in music is better than the TBSC. Not by a lot but still better.

I really enjoy my Audigy 2 ZS Platinum, it sounds great with my Logitech Z-5300's for Music and Games, I have not had any trouble with it and would recommend it to anyone. It is especially nice to have the Live Drive to plug optical devices into.
