Best Sound Card for Headphones under Windows 2000???

i've heard that the vortex2 chip soundcards are best for headphone playback. my concern is that that chipset is older an my not be compatible with windows 2000....any feedback??

i dont have a card yet im looking to buy one....any feedback on the best soundcard for headphone playback under win 2000?

haha, that's the first time i've heard anyone recommend that :p

The latest beta drivers *work* w/ the vortex 2, the problem is getting all the eax and a3d working... it just don't.

But just for listening to music it's fine. gaming is ok too, not quite as easy to tell where ppl are comin from tho :(

I got a Sound Blaster Live, Sony MDR-V900 headphones, and amazingly the soundcard alone is able to drive these things without an amp! Noise is almost non-existent, and the software seems to work flawlessly under Windows 2000. I would recommend using a separate amp for good headphones, but if you are in a pinch, this card will do what you want.
