Best solution for high end home apps? WRT54GX? MIMO?

Hi guys, new to the forum and I need some help. I'm a programmer for a company that does home automation and integration. I program AMX touchpanels and keypads to control everything from lights to whole house audio to waterfalls and fireplaces.

Often, the very backbone of my systems are heavily dependant on how strong my whole house wireless network is. Up to now, we have been using simple netgear wireless-g based routers with access points strategically placed throughout the house on the rj-45 connections that we pre-wire in the house.

Often, our clients spend in the 6-digits on home automation systems and I get the feeling that we should really be providing high end networking as well. Doesn't really make sense that we are putting a 27,000 dollar kaleidescape system on a 60 dollar netgear.

Our project designer and I are responsible for finding a new solution for our clients for their networking needs. We have been looking into the new MIMO based routers like the WRT54GX from linksys, but it looks like using WAPs is not an option on these routers? Is that the case? If so, I don't know if these would work on the typical house we install our systems into. A typical house can range anywhere from 5,000sq. ft to 36,000 sq. ft (our largest project).

What I need is a kick ass router that will NEVER go down (or close to never) and with a huge range. Price is not a concern within reason.

Thanks in advance for all of your input.

An animal like his does not exist the nature of the technology is different than Computer Games.

Wireless Signals are propagating through the air like any other "Radio" signal, and propagation is very sensitive to environment. Each environment needs its own solution.

well cisco seems to rule the professional arena. Symbol as well.

Intermec used to be super strong but they got out of the AP business.

They cost around 700 bucks. Less if you negotiate well. But they are professional access points, not rinky-dink home gear.

you lost me with the computer game reference, I know there isn't a "perfect" solution out there, but I know there are solutions better and more dependable then the ones we currently employ.

Is it true you can't use APs with these new MIMO routers?

Thanks for the recommendations spidey, I'll take a look at those companies.
