Best software to compress and image a mac volume

What's the best way to take a hard drive from my g4 and compress the contents into a disk image for use on my pc with mac drive? Thanks very much.

You can generate a complete image with Carbon Copy Cloner but I don't know if MacDrive will recognise it.
