Best software to backup OS, restore from DVD?

i do a lot of cleaning up of computers. usually for family and the like. what i am looking for is a program that can do the following:

Backup completed OS install with all programs/drivers
It must work with multiple OS (at least 98-XP, Linux would be nice)
Ability to burn backup to DVD, so i can give it to them (or keep for my future use)
Must be portable (license?). I'm going to be using it for multiple different PCs.

can norton ghost do all this? what else is available? give me some suggestions, and some links :O)

v9 is available at Newegg for $20, and I think v10 is $30.

I agree and it is so easy to use.

Ghost is good .... but it will not work with Linux ... Acronis Tru Image is said
to be able to image a Linux Installation .. but I have not tried it personally.
