for some reason google calendar doesnt want to work properly.
is there a good app out there that will notify me of upcoming birthdays?

I used to. Another program you could use is EssentialPIM. It's free and can import all the stuff from Outlook. Also it has a small footprint and you can be mobile with it, although I don't compute mobile, personally.
 
lol the guy in other said that most of the time it wasnt working propely

gotta love poor 3rd party coders who make their own software and try to compete with big comapnies only to find that their app doesnt work lol.
