I just want something simple so I can drop my bills into the scanner, press a button, and have some program batch scan them to file, preferably .pdf, for storage so I can pitch my file cabinet. Can anyone recommend something good along those lines? Ease of use is key.

Usually each scanner comes with software that scans to pdf. The better scanners can do double sided at one time.

I would avoid Paperport 11 like the plague. Paperport 12 is pretty good though. These both came with scanners at work, but I know some folks use this software at home.

You will need a scanner with ADF feature (automatic document feed) to do anything in "batch". Also, it will be hard to scan if the "bills" are not all one size (such as 8.5"x11").

I have an all-in-one device with ADF (HP 3050AIO laserjet) with TWAIN support. It does not come with batch-scanning software.

as i said, irfanview.

i dunno how to get it to work with the auto-doc feed, but its batch mode certainly increased the speed at which i can process stuff i'm scanning in.

also: remember to set up default rules for sheet size, grayscale, and levelling.

try out the demo on the bottom left there to see what a scan looks like with it.

is there any other scanning software like this?
