Best software for a restore disk

I've got a CDRW and want to back up my recent hard drive installation (under 650Mb)to CD, eliminating the need to install all the software manually.

Can I use my current software to do this - nero or winoncd 3.6?

If not, which is the best software for this purpose?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

I did mine this way...

->Got norton ghost (5.1 I believe)
->Create and image
->burn the image and the ghost.exe on the image

Works great. I've imaged my system about 50 times this way... (ok, maybe 30)

Take Two, included with Adaptec's EZ CD Creator 4.0 works fine.

But upgrade it off the 'net with it's latest patches.

Actually I heard that Drive Image 4 is almost twice as fast at copying and restoring and has a very easy to use interface so you might want to take a look at that one. You could also get a full free demo from the Powerquest site. On top of that everyone who I have spoken with that has used both Ghost and Drive Image 4 prefers Drive Image 4.

I purchased Drive Image Pro recently and have made an image of approx. 3 gigs uncompressed. This needed 5 cds and took about an hour. I haven't used the restore feature....Yet🙂

I've used both Ghost and PowerQuest's Drive Image. Thumbs up to Drive Image. It's more intuitive, the 40% compression option runs just as fast as without compression. This is also a great way to back up C to a D partition or drive.

I prefer Drive Image Pro from Power Quest over Norton Ghost. No real reason except Drive Image looks better.. Pretty stupid I know but thats about all that is different between the two.

Yes, it does look prettier. There is also something to be said about Ghost fitting on one floppy and designed to be used with or without a mouse. Ghost, DriveImage, and TakeTwo are all excellent tools for Partition or Drive imaging.

If you want to be able to backup individual files, go with Veritas Backup Exec Desktop (Pro).
