so i'm looking to stick a 3000+ 90nm together with something ... i have a 3200+ 754 right now, but i want to upgrade to give me more flexibility. the 3000+ i can oc to 3200+ if i choose to, and i doubt i'll see a big performance difference anyways.

The question is which mobo should i look into? i have a 6800GT, so i wanna keep that...so i'm not gettin a pci-x board

i figure i'd go with the nforce3 chipset and i'm looking at the msi k8n neo2 (non-plat). I figure i'd spend somewhere close to 100 bucks or so on this board bc i don't need any of the extra features of the 'platinum' boards

any ideas/suggestions would be great

so you would take this soltek board over a MSI k8n neo2 or whatever asus/abit has to offer?

i mean, i figure 100 plus/minus 20 bucks is what i'm gonna spend....so if there's anything better performance wise at like 115-120, i'll chip in a bit more.

also i'm not too familiar with soltek, is it as good as the other companies?

Going from a 3200 to a 3000? Sound more like a down grade.

People upgrade for performance not for socket type.
If you doubt me take a look at the benches.

You'll notice socket 754 Perfomance really excels at Video/Audio editing and over Socket 754 are better and multithreading since they run at higher speeds.

Well, I think Soltek is easily as good, if not better than most other brands, but that's because I've used strictly Soltek for my home PC's for a while now, and never had any issues.

I am not saying I wouldn't pay more, and that you shouldn't pay more, but the Soltek is definitely the best bang for buck 939 board out there.

If you want to spend a little more, the Neo2 will work, but you get almost the same features from the Soltek, AND the Soltek performs so well at stock speeds, no matter what you pay for other boards, the Soltek will probably still outperform, for less money. And to be honest, I'd be a lot more comfortable using a Soltek over an MSI, any day. You just never know with MSI.

SO, yes, I'd rather have the Soltek over the MSI, but that's just me :)

well amd is gettin rid of the socket 754...and i figure i hop on that...i mean i'll get a good boost from the nforce3 + 6800gt and the dual channel ram....
the CPU i can always just oc a tad....

so back to the old question...which socket 939 board (non-platinum) is decent at 100-120 bucks price range?

If you're overclocking, Epox's nForce3 Ultra boards are great. I have had my 9NDA3+ up to 315HTT stable.

Dual channel RAM's not going to give you much performance increase (it's about 5% at the same clockspeed versus 754)... in fact, that's why the 939 3000+ is only 1.8GHz, the speed of the 2800+. I'd keep your current setup and just upgrade your board if you want to OC and your current one can't. If you're set on going 939 already, though, try one of the Epoxes.
