ILLINOIS: Illinois is a major producer of corn, and adopted popcorn as its official snack in 2003. Locals swear by Garrett Popcorn, whose flavors range from cheese to caramel.

I cannot disagree about my state and popcorn, because I do love eating popcorn... but Garrett's is butt-ass nasty! Locals certainly do not swear by them. I don't know what they put on the butter & cheese flavored popcorn but it is a giant greasy disgusting mess that I will never have again. Your hands just become coated in thick glop and you cannot touch anything until you find the nearest sink.

I already mentioned Peppe's pizza in New Haven.

Sorry,

Lockport New York has Pizza Oven. Nothing I have ever had touches this pizza. Flat out, if Peppe's represent Connecticut there s no reason that Pizza Oven not represent New York.

Connecticut Pizza from Peppes? really? That is pretty sad.

Oh, I live in CT. That's the best the state has to offer? I feel like a looser.

It's just frickin' pizza. It's good but it's not the best I ever had.

Bear's BBQ in Windsor, exit 37 on 91. Worth the drive. You can thank me later.

maryland's top snack is not crab? shame on that list (though i suppose you could argue crab is not necessarily a snack)

 for Tasty Kakes, but I'm surprised PA's wasn't soft pretzels.

No freaking way is Calif stuck with Sees candy as its snack food. Maybe garlic roasted edemame, or gas station burritos.

I am from California and yes See's Candy is awesome. My favorite chocolate ever.

I am really surprised by Hawaii. How could Shave Ice not be the winner there?????
Also a big WTF on New York for yogurt! It should be pretzels or hot dogs since there is a cart on about every corner selling them.

See's Candy is terrible. California must have a lot better stuff than that garbage.

KT

Edit: love the list though, fascinating to see all of the different stuff out there.

See's candy for CA is dumb. Yes, it's ubiquitous, but no more so than Ethel M in Las Vegas.

Speaking of Las Vegas, Navajo fry bread is a dumb one for Nevada:
A) Nobody calls it that, they're "Indian tacos". Not actually a large Navajo population in some parts of the state.
B) Locals don't eat them, they're a tourist thing.
C) "Free booze at casinos" is a much more representative snack.

Lol, yogurt? Are you serious New York??

They hit the nail on the head for Texas. Chips n salsa/guac/queso are my weakness.

NEW YORK: New Yorkers’ snack tastes run the gamut, but state legislators are close to making yogurt the official state snack. Sorry, Buffalo wings, soft pretzels, and apples.

Bleh.

Cannolis (any Italian bakery, worthy of it's heritage), cupcakes (Crumbs, Magnolia, everyone and their mother), cookies (tons of bakeries with tons and tons of cookie selection), pies (,... Little Pie Company; http://www.littlepiecompany.com/).

I am so disappointed.

Of all the massive variety of awesome foods that's available in California, See's Candy gets the pick? F that noise, I don't think I've ever met anyone here that was craving See's candy. I thought it was a dying brand as there's tons of better options for chocolate.

Half of this list is so... wrong.

A lot of those items on the lists are actually regional, very specific regional no less within a state, for states that don't have an "official state snack".

I love tater tots. I'm in PA though.

Tasty Cakes for PA??? Really??? Those things are usually nasty - taste like chemicals. Utz or Middleswarth products would have been my first guess.

I think Tastykakes are a reasonable pick for PA, but Herr's potato chips would be my alternate as I'm not a fan of Utz's whatosever.
