alright, I use apple as a computer. I like the iphone, but its expensive, too expensive. I want/need a smartphone, but i need one that is compatible with my Mac. Whats my best option, or is the iphone the only real option. if the iphone 3gs comes down any further in price I could imagine getting one. However, I would still prefer to get something cheaper.

i use a nokia E63 at the moment, but its not really a very good phone. the isync software for nokia is okay, but really I want something better, or at least equivalent too. any suggestions?

cheers,
Jake

What are you wanting to do? Just sync music? Or do you want to do calender and contacts? A quick google search looks like Android will get the job done. I don't know what the going rate is over there but quite a few older Android GSM phones are out there.

Any phone is fine for a Mac user. If you love iTunes then iPhone is your best bet as it uses iTunes for everything. What do you mean by too expensive? You can get a 3GS for $99 which is cheap.

right...

OP: are you talking monthly price or the cost of the phone?

If you are a mac guy, get an iPhone. If you want to tinker, get something Android.

What provider do/will you use?

I use 3, i live in the UK, currently i spend £20 a month on my data plan, I could get an iphone 3GS for £29 on a £30 a month contract or the iphone 4 for £189 on a £30 a month contract.

I want to sync everything, music, contacts, ical, my university mail (exchange), my mac mail, etc.

does anyone think I could get a better phone that will sync all those programs with my Mac. and really it needs to sync at least as good as nokia does, but i don't really want another nokia smartphone. I'm just looking for opinions.

If you already use iTunes for your music then an iPhone will just take everything naturally for it.

It really sounds like the 3GS is your best bet. I don't know much about the difference between the 3GS and the iP4 though. I'm sure one of our Apple guys will chime in on that but it for sure sounds like the iPhone would be the best match for you.

thanks for the honest opinion, i like using my mac, but i do find it frustrating sometimes how hard it is to sync apps and phones and whatever with the non mac crowd, especially since the apple products are not always the best.

If you can really get a 3GS for £29 then jump on that. That's really cheap.

My BlackBerry 9700 works perfectly with my Mac. The BlackBerry Desktop Manager syncs my music through iTunes, iCal tasks/calendar, contacts, etc. I believe the 9780 is coming out soon with more RAM and built-in BB6 (WebKit browser), which I may be interested in.

That's all assuming you aren't kooky for apps/games like most people seem to be on these forums.
