Hi,

Im currrently running 1x8500GT on a quad core desktop
It is not too good performance wise.

I'm looking into getting SLI since I do have 500watt PSU, any recommendations for best value/performance and quitest solution?

The 8500GT seems to be pretty loud since small fast fan so hope the upgrade will be quieter.
Would it be better for 2x8600GTS or 1x 8800GTS so on

Thanks

SLI on Vista 64 is flaky and troublesome currently. There are some beta patches around from Microsoft. I think I'm finally pretty stable now....but it has taken hours of fiddling and twiddling. I can give you details if you want, but I'm exhausted dealing with it in the last 3 days!!

If your heatsink/fans are pretty loud then you will probably not even hear the video card over them so you should be okay.

Most of the time I don't even notice my 8800GTS is there.

And 8500GT SLI sounds like a bad idea; they'd probably be slower than a single 7900GTX.

The quietest solution is a single card, not SLI.

Also avoid passively cooled SLI as it has a tendency to get too hot.
